CHAKRASHILA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

This is a newly declared Wildlife Sanctuary in Lower Assam falling under BTC with an area of 45.658 Sq.km. Chakrashila Hill R.F. was first declared as R.F in 1966. It was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary in 1994.

This Sanctuary is a hilly tract running North-South. The lower reaches are covered with Sal coppice regeneration while middle and upper reaches are covered with mixed deciduous forests.

Chakrashila is well known for the existence of Golden Langurs. It is a segregated habitat from the main Indo-Bhutan habitat in the north. The important sites to visit are Sikhrisikhla, Bhalukjhora (a pair natural hole). Bakuamari/Baokhungri Peak (1491 feet), Dibil Thakur Peak, Dandufur/Anthai Gufur, Goshain Bhita, Jarnagara etc. Dheer Beel, Diplai Beel are other attractive spots to visit nearby Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary has got an accommodation facility at Choraikhola. It is 5-6 kms from Kokrajhar where there is no dearth of accommodation and communication facilities.
