FISHERY DEPARTMENT

There is an immense scope of development of fisheries in BTC. With the existing water areas available in the shape of ponds and tanks, beels, community tanks, water logged areas, low-lying areas, derelict water bodies, paddy fields etc. the fish production is not sufficient to meet the demand due to want of exploitation of the water bodies. With an idea for production of fish a good number of schemes have been proposed in A.O.P. for the 2005-06, which has already been approved by the Council. The total allocation of fund during the year 2005-06 was Rs. 121.00 (Rupees one crore twenty one lacs) only which is already been approved and sanction also accorded.

The quality fish seed is the main input in pisciculture practices to obtain good production of fish. Accordingly 3 (three) nos. of Eco-hatcheries have been established in the districts of Udalguri, Baksa and Kokrajhar & production of quality fish seeds have already been started.
