FOREST VILLAGES
Most of the Territorial Forest Divisions
especially in western part of BTC areas
have a number of recognized forest villages.
Many of these forest villages were known
to be set up/established during the British
period while many have been set up after
independence also. Besides these, there
are number of villages inside R.F. lands.
The process of recognition of these villages
remained incomplete mainly due to promulgation
of Indian Forest (conservation) Act, 1980.
Such villages are neither treated as fully
recognized forest villages nor purely encroachment
villages. The decision by the appropriate
Authorities / Government (s) is yet to be
taken. The following are the recognized
Forest Villages under Kachugaon, Haltugaon,
Dhubri (Parbatjhora), Darrang (Udalguri)
and Aie Valley (Chirang) Forest Division.
