NURSERIES AND PLANTATIONS

Raising successful plantations especially in P.B./P.R.F. areas due to heavy biotic interference is a serious problem in BTC. It is common in outside plantations as raised by social forestry or other organizations. The plantations raised under different schemes are required to be maintained for few years i.e. say up to 5 years or so till establishment.

Since 2000-02, Social Forestry Division of BTC has raised 2000.20 ha. at 114 locations in different districts under various schemes. The Social Forestry Division has also planted 1499 nos. of single plantation at 17 locations, besides raising 2 kms. strip plantations during the same period. The Territorial DFOs have also done some plantations in their respective jurisdictions. In view of the limited fund, the Department is proposing to maintain 912.0 ha. plantations with an estimated cost of Rs. 16.33 laKhs during the current year. It has proposed to do advance work of planting 380.0 ha. in degraded forestland with an estimated cost of 12.57 lakhs during the current year. Nursery and plantation are also being raised with the help of JFMC under different FDAs in Haltugaon Division (being executed by the DFO, SF Division, Kokrajhar), Dhubri (Parbafjhora) Division (being executed by the DFO Dhubri SF Division Gauripur), Aie Valley (Chirang) Division, (being executed by the DFO, SF Division, Bongaigaon) etc. The major FDA work is under Haltugaon FDA with 28 JFMCs followed by JFMSc in Dhubri Division.
