RESEARCH AND STUDY
Research on the attributes of Manas have
not been substantial; however, the following
works were done.
Ecological studies on grassland with reference
to the Pygmy Hog, updating of the lists
of the Plants, Avifauna, Lepidoptera, Remote
Sensing, Primate ecology of the Trachy pithecus
geei, socio economic surveys, etc. Recent
studies in Manas National Park have identified
650 species of plants; another 50 species
have also been found in the same study.
In Orang, the research on the behavioral
ecology of the Rhinoceros unicornis Linn
has recently concluded. An opportunistic
study by an NGO has led to the discovery
of a species of frog, C. 0rangens very recently.
A recent sighting of pygmy hogs, Sus saIvanius,
confirmed the presence of this elusive and
smallest wild pig in the world at Bamadi
Wild Life Sanctuary. The presence of Slow
Loris (Nycticebus coucang) has also been
confirmed at Bamadi.
