SECTOR A : RURAL
WATER SUPPLY
The Public Health Engineering Department
has played an important role in providing
safe drinking water at not covered and partially
covered villages by installing Hand Pumps
(M-ill, M-II, Hand Tube Well, Tara Hand
Pump, Singur Hand Pump) and Ring Wells.
Specially in the northern part of BTC (Bhutan
foot-hills) which can be referred as boulder
zone, where normal boring is not possible,
the BTC authority has initiated rig boring
in that area. After formation of BTC, authorities
have taken strong steps to provide safe
drinking water through rig boring in the
area. PHED has installed many M-III by rig
boring in that area within a short period
which was not done in the past decades.
The Department is also supplying safe drinking
water from the pipe water supply scheme
to the community. The department has renovated
many ill-fated schemes in the last few years.
The PHED, BTC is always alert to provide
pure and safe drinking water in the time
of floods. The water sources in the relief
camps are also disinfected with bleaching
powder, alum etc. when there is breakout
of cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery in the
villages.
The PHED of BTC is providing potable drinking
water through water tanker in workshops,
seminar, meeting and exhibition etc. as
and when called for urgent requirement of
drinking water.
The Hon'ble Executive Member, PHED, BTC
Mr. Derhasat Basumatary has personally taken
keen interest in successful implementation
of spot source and piped water supply schemes
and has been monitoring after regular intervals.
