SPORTS & YOUTH WELFARE DEPARTMENT
 

The BTC area has good record in the field of Football. Good number of football players under this area represented in Inter-National Level Tournament and earned reputation for the BTC area. Besides, in other discipline, such as Volleyball, Kabaddi, Athletics, Martial Arts (Tae-Kwondo, Kung-Fu) etc. good number of players/athletes brought the good name for the area.

Besides this as per the suggestion by sports loving people of the BTC area the department is trying to introduce some discipline such as Basketball, Handball, Hockey, Kho-Kho and some new discipline of indoor games.

Good number of Annual Tournament/Competition like School Tournament, Rural Sports Meet under different age-group are being conducted in BTC area. Apart from that the department is helping financially in some major tournament/Trophy like Martyrs Gold Cup Football, Kokrajhar Martyrs Sujit Narzary Football, Kokrajhar, Jwhwlao Swmbla Football Trophy, Chirang, U.N. Brahma Gold Cup Football, Udalguri and some other tournament/competition organized by different organization/Association under BTC area.

The BTC has taken up the development of infrastructure facilities of playground and construction of Mini Stadium etc. in rural areas from the BTC plan allocation at Bhergaon, Tamulpur, Salabari, Bijni, Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora Kajigaon. Apart from this BTC have also included in the list of schemes for execution under Rs. 500 crore BTC Package during the year 2006-07 for construction of Stadium in all the four districts of BTC i.e. Udalguri, Mushalpur, Kajalgaon and Kokrajhar.

The sports complex at Kathalguri village adjacent to Kokrajhar town is being constructed at the cost of Rs. 929·00 lacs and more or less 90% of total project is completed till date. The fund is provided from the centrally sponsored schemes under PM package programme.

The department has taken initiative for the development and upliftment in the field of games and sports and physical education for the encouragement of young generation which will certainly bring unity, peace, brotherhood amongst the various communities irrespective of castes, creed, religion under the BTC area. The Sports & Youth Welfare deptt. has also taken up construction of office of the Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare under plan fund of 2005-06.

ACHIEVEMENT

During the year 2005 the BTC sanctioned 2·53 crore to the Sports & Youth Welfare Department.

1. Construction of Mini Stadium : The BTC had earmarked Rs. 50,0000·00 (Rupees Fifty lacs) only for construction of 6 (six) numbers of Mini Stadium, mainly at i) Gossaigaon of Kokrajhar district, ii) Salbari of Baksa district, iii) Bijni of Chirang district, iv) Bhergaon of Udalguri district, v) Tamulpur of Baksa district, vi) Kajigaon of Kokrajhar district.

2. Deputation for Higher Study : The Soprts & Youth Welfare deptt., BTC, Kokrajhar Rs. 10,03,680·00 (Ropees ten lacs three thousand six hundred eighty) only sanctioned and released for higher studies of Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) and Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) (12 nos. and 4 nos.) respectively at Degree College of Physical Education, Amravati (Maharashtra).

3. Tournament : The four districts under BTC area the Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri are conducted District Level Tournament gorgeously and participated in the Inter-District Tournaments and earned good name and fame for BTC. In the event of Football the Kokrajhar District and in the event of Volleyball the Baksa District became champion respectivley in the Inter-District Rural Sports Tournament which was held at Panitola, Tinsukia. In this year in the event of Archery the district Chirang, Udalguri and Kokrajhar secured first, second and third position respectively which was held at Udalguri. The Baksa district both Boys and Girls teams became champion in the Inter-District Hockey Tournament.

4. Sports Goods Supply : To conduct the District Level Tournament and holding of coaching camps in various discipline necessary sports equipments are distributed to the four district head offices namely Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri amounting to Rs. 72,57,490·00 (Rupees seventy two lacs fifty seven thousand four hundred ninety) only.
Apart from that, the sports goods also supplied to 195 nos. of schools/institutions under BTC area.

5. Fianancial Assistance to Major Trophy : Rs. 25,00,000·00 (Rupees twenty five lacs) only has been released to condcut the Major Trophy namely 1) Martyrs Gold Cup, Kokrajhar; 2) Swmbla Basumatary Memorial Trophy, Chirang; 3) U.N. Brahma Gold Cup, Udalguri and 4) Martyrs Sujit Narzary Gold Cup, Kokrajhar under BTC area. Besides this an amounting to Rs. 20,00,000·00 (Rupees twenty lacs) only has been released to various Clubs & Associations under BTC area.

6. Cash Reward : Rs. 5,00,000·00 (Rupees five lacs) only has already been alloted to reward for 32 nos. of district champions and runners up team in various discipline for encouragement and upliftment the games & sports under BTC area.

7. Coaching : During 2005-06 Rs. 5,00,000·00 (Rupees five lacs) only is alloted to impart coaching in the various event at different places to improve the performance of players/athletes as well as to increase the knowledge and spirit of physical education under BTC area.

The department has supplied office furnitures and computer sets to newly created district offices for an amount of Rs. 7,50,000·00 (Rupees seven lacs fifty thousnad) only.
